A need is something you want for a useful purpose.
Do you lack something necessary or very useful which you must have? What is that thing? That is what we call a need.
Needs are different from individuals to individuals: To some, it is a state of not having enough of what are essential to living, like food, clothing, or money - POVERTY!
To others it is a state of physical weakness or bad health, not being well in body or mind - SICKNESS! To many it is the problem of grief or unhappiness over a loss or wrong doing, a state or sadness -SORROW!
Some others are anxious and uncomfortable. It may be anxiety over employment, or marriage, or education, or health, or future - WORRY.
How do you have your needs met and your problem solved?
Four (4) things are to be addressed.
- your felt needs
- your real needs
- your willingness
-your resources
1. Felt needs - what you feel are your biggest problems.
2. Real needs - steps you can take to meet these problems in a lasting way.
3. Willingness - your readiness to plan and take the needed steps.
4. Resources – who or what can help you to do what you want to do.
As a simple example of how each of these things can be important, let us suppose that a man who smokes a lot comes to you complaining of a cough that has steadily been getting worse. He’s dying of the cough. How do we apply the above to meet his need and solve his problem?
1. His felt need is to get rid of his cough.
2. His real need (to correct the problem) is to give up smoking
3. To get rid of his cough will require his willingness to give up smoking. For this he must understand how much it really matters.
How do you apply this to meet your need of poverty, or sickness, or sorrow, or worry?
Your need now is CHANGE!
Now, the change must follow a process:
1. Recognize your felt needs
2. Identify your real need
3. Decide what you are willing to give up or the price you are willing to pay.
4. Know who can help you without fail
A story in the Bible will help you out.
“And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years, And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse, When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague (Mk. 5:25-29).
1. This woman was sick, and felt she needed Physicians. She contacted many and spent much money without solution.
2. She discovered her real need - JESUS.
3. She was willing to approach Jesus after hearing of Him as the one who she needed.
4. The only thing Jesus needed to heal her was faith - and the woman had it! Touching Jesus with faith, she was healed straight away!
Jesus Christ is your need for this hour. Your life can be beautiful if you will connect with him in faith as the woman did, and commit to Him in obedience.
LISTEN, Jesus is in the world and He’s still very much in the business of changing lives. Whatsoever has been keeping you from Jesus you must give up! Sinful habits, immoral living, dishonest gains, evil thoughts, neglect of the pricks of conscience, violence and crimes, disobedience to God, careless life, proud words, all evil deeds must be confessed and put away.
After this you ask Jesus to come into your life to take over and Satan will hand over!
